‘It’s a real honour’ – Hamilton ‘really grateful’ after being announced as co-chair for 2025 Met Gala

Lewis Hamilton has stated he is “really grateful” after the Met Gala recently announced he will act as a co-chair for the 2025 exhibition, joining famous faces from the sport, music and acting industries to plan the iconic evening.
The seven-time F1 world champion has become known for his paddock fashion in recent years, arriving to each track in looks from brands that occasionally host him at their shows, and has become an influential figure in fashion across the globe.

As a long-time Met Gala attendee – having made his first appearance in 2015 – Hamilton has also played a key role in bridging the gap between professional sport and the world of high-end fashion.
Alongside actor Colman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky, singer Pharrell Williams and Vogue legend Anna Wintour, the Briton will help to make the theme of ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ a success next May.
Speaking ahead of the US Grand Prix, Hamilton said: “Firstly, it’s a real honour and privilege and something that I’ve been working on for a long, long time to get into that position. Just getting to go to the Met Gala was always something really special.
“Having seen the hosts before, I remember I would look on and think ‘it would be cool one day to be a host’. Anna’s been so gracious as to include me within that group.”

The Mercedes driver, who will move to Ferrari next season, cited his 2021 appearance, when he paid for a table and invited a number of up-and-coming young Black designers to the gala, as a reason for Wintour bringing him into the fold.
“It is such a prestigious event, but that one thing showed that it can be a great event and also have a positive impact,” he explained. “She’s brought me on board and that’s what we’re doing on a bigger scale now moving forwards, so I’m really grateful to be part of that.”
Regarded as one of the most prestigious fashion events, the annual Spring fundraiser is renowned for celebrities’ differing interpretations of the theme, which next year focuses on the style of Black dandyism.
Hamilton won’t be the only sports star getting involved as NBA icon LeBron James will be given the title of honorary chair, adding another household name to the glamorous fashion festival.
